Unleash your creative side , in the midst of an apple orchard at the plush homestay – Meena Bagh in the lesser known village of Ratnari, Himachal Pradesh . About a 6 hour slightly bumpy drive from Chandigarh , Meena Bagh provides more than you can ask for. One doesn’t really expect a remote village cottage to have rather luxurious amenities.

With the cities turning into concrete jungles , it is so refreshing to holiday in place surrounded by nature.

It is a great idea to visit Meena Bagh , Ratnari during the apple picking season in late August. For one it is beautiful to see the apple orchard in full bloom and the other , you can participate in apple picking activities and relish them fresh. They also make the most delicious apple jams.

You will be awed by the beauty of the home itself. The owner – Sanjay’s eye for detail is evident from the  aesthetic design and decor of the home. The wood panelling and some of the furniture and decor has been done from waste wood giving the place a cosy atmosphere with a traditional Himachali touch.

The sun room with  large French windows which also has a telescope is the best place to spend a lazy afternoon. It is a pet friendly homestay and houses two cats in its attic. The bedrooms are comfortable and have spacious bathrooms with bathtubs.

It is 4 Bedroom Cottage with the upper story having two bedrooms and three sitting rooms while the lower story  has the other two bedrooms.

It is the perfect escape for groups of friends and families as they prefer renting out the whole place to one group. The cottage is about a 150m walk from the main road through the picturesque apple orchard. Their kind staff will help you from the main road with your luggage till the main cottage.

The home cooked meals with a Himachali twist are nothing short of delicious and I guarantee you will eat much more than your fill ! The staff is extremely hospitable , making you feel well taken care of.

Spend the evening walking on any one of the trails that lead to the surrounding deodar forest or just stroll the charming village roads.

This quaint yet cosy cottage makes the perfect weekend escape from Chandigarh. (If it were upto me , I would say the whole week)

How to Reach Meena Bagh, Ratnari

It is about a six hour drive from Chandigarh and an Hour’s drive from Narkanda. You could also fly into Shimla and have a taxi drive you here. ( About 2 – 2.5 hours Drive From Shimla) . It is most comfortable to drive in a SUV .
